No Mess

What is the best way to clean the “tail” of my pouch after I empty it without making a mess?
J.W.

Dear J.W.,

The best way to clean the “tail” of the pouch is by rolling a small piece of toilet paper and inserting it, repeating until the last couple of inches are clean. If you can “roll back” the tail to form a cuff before emptying, it may also be easier to clean.

Also, many companies now make a velcro-type closure at the bottom with reinforced strips also at the bottom of the tail that when squeezed between the thumb and forefinger, open the end of the pouch.

Some people tell me that they prefer to occasionally use a mild soap and water to either rinse or swab the area, dry then close. For people with limited dexterity, impaired vision or other special needs that make emptying difficult, a disposable pouch may be a consideration.
